Inner parts work

About inner parts work. We are all made up of parts that are connected to each other and fulfill certain roles. Sometimes you are a parent, partner, someone’s friend, a child yourself, and other times an employee. All these roles/parts belong to you and influence you. Every human being is born pure. Through our upbringing and the things we experience in life, we develop personality parts. This causes us to react and behave in certain ways in situations. For example, people-pleasing behavior, putting yourself last and ignoring your own needs, setting high standards (for yourself and others), difficulty making choices, etc. 

Origin of unhelpful parts 

Unhelpful, destructive parts often arise in childhood, when we learn how to behave in certain situations so that we are heard, seen, loved, protected, nurtured, recognized, and appreciated. The parts therefore always have a positive intention, but the resulting behavior is often still based on immaturity and hurt feelings. 

Healing: allowing parts to work together 

In a sense, we all consist of many different characteristics, patterns, and dynamics that do not always work together harmoniously. We are often unaware of these different parts. They often have our best interests at heart, but can be in conflict with each other. Inner part work is suitable for resolving these inner conflicts and struggles. 

In working with parts, you place yourself in your own personality parts, which makes you aware of your own actions and 
ways of thinking. This creates space and allows you to heal. Healing is ensuring that all parts of yourself work together. 

Examples of obstructive behavior patterns, emotions, beliefs, and 
physical symptoms 

  • Thoughts: thinking things you don’t want to think about yourself, others, or doom scenarios. 
  • Energetic symptoms: you have no energy, feel no flow in your body, or are overly influenced by the energy of others. 
  • Feelings and emotions: you don’t like how your feelings react. In certain situations or just suddenly, I can feel afraid, angry, sad, impatient, or inferior. 
  • Physical symptoms: your physical symptoms are trying to tell you something (your back pain is telling you to take it easy, your sore throat wants you to speak up more often). 
    You have already been to the doctor and had a medical examination, but the cause and solution for your physical complaints have not been found. 
  • Behavioral patterns and habits: you do things that you don’t really enjoy and that get you into trouble (smoking, 
    overeating, drinking alcohol, stealing, etc.).
